IT Director

This is very responsible technical and supervisory work overseeing and assisting with computer networks and information services for Marshall County government.  Activities associated with the job include supervising and assisting with trouble-shooting and correcting network infrastructure problems, maintaining various software programs and systems, providing assistance with information service planning and helping employees with computer hardware problems and software applications.  Additional responsibilities include overseeing and assisting with solving network engineering and design problems, assisting employees with technical difficulties and/or software applications and maintaining all internal and external data communications pathways.  The incumbent is also responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance and administration of network servers and routers and network security and intrusion detection.  Job responsibilities require extensive experience in developing and maintaining computer networks, hardware components and software applications utilized to support county government operations.  The incumbent should also possess strong interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills and experience supervising the activities of assigned staff.  Job performance is evaluated by the County Mayor through review of technical expertise, level of support provided for the network and systems users, supervisory capabilities, adherence to county procurement and purchasing policies, interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills and ability to meet established deadlines and reporting requirements.

Necessary Requirements of Work
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field preferred; extensive experience supporting a network with multiple remote sites; excellent organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills, extensive experience installing computer hardware components and software applications; sufficient strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job; considerable supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following critical knowledge, abilities and skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of networking hardware and software applications including routers, remote communications and servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of the fundamental principles of PC operation and effective troubleshooting procedures for personal computer hardware, operating systems and software applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft, Windows and other operating systems necessary for the installation and maintenance of servers utilizing these operating systems.
Necessary Special Requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Possession of a valid Tennessee Drivers’ License and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.
  • A+ Certification in Hardware, Windows and DOS operating systems.
  • Certification in Network Design.
