Solid Waste Administrative Assistant
This is very responsible accounting and administrative work involving the weighing of recycled items and receipt of fees received for solid waste disposal for the Marshall County Solid Waste Department. Activities associated with the job include receiving customers utilizing the solid waste facility, classifying the recycled items and waste they wish to dispose, directing them to the proper area of the facility, determining the weight of recyclables and waste they are disposing of and charging them accordingly. Additional activities include maintaining records of accounts receivables, data entry of information in a computer database, assisting with invoicing commercial and residential customers, answering incoming calls, and preparing daily and monthly closing reports. Job responsibilities require considerable knowledge of solid waste operations, considerable experience performing accounting and administrative activities, and strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. Job performance is evaluated by the Assistant Solid Waste Director through review of the accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness of completed work, knowledge of solid waste operations, organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills and the level of administrative and accounting support provided for Solid Waste operations.
Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited four year high school supplemented with additional coursework in bookkeeping, accounting, or closely related field; considerable experience working in an office setting performing administrative and/or accounting duties; considerable experience working in solid waste, landfill and/or transfer station operations; strong organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills; dedicated attention to detail; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Completion of criminal background check and drug screen. Possession of a valid Tennessee Drivers’ license and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.
