Emergency Medical Responder Driver (Part-Time)
Emergency Medical Service (EMS)

Nature of Work
The responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Driver include providing safe transportation of patients to healthcare facilities, transporting emergency personnel, and transporting patients, while communicating efficiently and clearly with emergency personnel at all times.  This position is in response to Gov. Bill Lee’s Executive Order #83, effective August 6, 2021, granting temporary regulatory flexibility for ambulance driver qualifications.

Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED preferred; valid Tennessee Driver’s License, safe driving record, good interpersonal skills, ability to perform the demanding aspects of the job in a variety of weather conditions; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Knowledge of emergency radio transmission codes.
  • Excellent defensive driving skills.
  • Ability to accurately discern street names through map reading, the ability to correctly distinguish house numbers, and addresses of business locations, in the most expedient manner.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and reassure frightened patients.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform the demanding requirements of the job in a variety of weather conditions.

Necessary Special Requirements
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. 
  • Must possess either a Class D or a Class F driver license.
  • Must possess at least one (1) year of driving experience.
  • Must have Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC)
  • Must have Vanessa Kay Free certification (VKF)
  • Completion of a criminal background check, MVR report and drug screen.
